This past Wednesday, Krist Novoselic wrote an opinion piece for the
Seattle Times on politics: "THE fight in federal
appeals court over Washington state's primary-election system is polarized
around two principles. One argues for wider voter choice through a 'top-two'
primary, while the other pulls for the right of free association by way of
a Montana-style system of partisan ballots. These two important elements of
our democratic experience - choice and free association - need not be mutually
exclusive. Nor can we let this false dichotomy distract us from the challenges
facing Washington elections. Just a small modification of the top-two system
would alleviate the concerns of all parties involved. The change, to a ranked-choice
ballot, would remove the constitutional problems created by Initiative 872, now
before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and ultimately build a quality
democratic system that would invite increased participation." Read the

Very interesting story from today's edition of The Daily World in
Aberdeen, WA: "A crew of documentary filmmakers
from Los Angeles has been in Aberdeen this week, shooting a documentary
on the life of the late Kurt Cobain - one that will be narrated by Cobain
himself. The producers are drawing on taped interviews the Nirvana frontman
did with Michael Azerrad, author of the Nirvana biography 'Come As You Are.'
Using Cobain's own voice to tell the story and focusing on the place where
he grew up, director AJ Schnack said, is the filmmakers' way of making the
Grunge rock star human again - instead of the untouchable icon his meteoric
rise and tragic fall made him." Read the full story here,
