| NFC News Cobain documentary update |
 More info on the upcoming Kurt Cobain documentary, courtesy of NME:" 'The film is based on a series of interviews that Michael Azerrad conducted with Kurt [between December 1992 and March 1993] while researching the book. There are more than 25 hours of these audio interviews in all, none of which have been heard before by anyone,' director AJ Schnack told NME.COM. 'I worked with Michael to cull an approximately 95-minute audio track from these interviews. While I'm not sure that narrated is exactly the right word, you will be listening in on conversations between Kurt and Michael, with Kurt telling his life story for that book. There are no additional interviews with other figures from Kurt's life, just Kurt speaking, with an occasional question or comment from Michael.' The other members of Nirvana are not involved with the currently untitled film, which is set to be screened at various film festivals next autumn. Schnack added: 'It pretty much covers his whole life leading-up to the interviews with the emphasis being more on him and his general take on things rather than on general band developments. We're not using any archival footage at all. The music will focus on bands that influenced Kurt during the various stages of his life. It's unclear what part, if any, Nirvana music may play in the finished film.' " Read the complete story here. |

| NFC News Nirvana fight club to close its doors |
| On October 19, 1991 Nirvana played a legendary show at the Trees club in Dallas, TX. The show was the scene of a fight between Kurt Cobain and a bouncer during Nirvana's performance of Love Buzz which can be seen in the "Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!" video. Now, the club is possibly closing for good. The Dallas Observer published an article on the club, including the complete story of what happened that October night when Nirvana played. Jeff who booked the performance explains: "By the time Nirvana took the stage, almost 1,000 people (including the guest list) were packed into our club. The smoke was dense, and it was hotter than hell itself. Five biker-looking bouncers were positioned in front of the band, so you could barely even see Nirvana. Still, lunatic kids managed to climb onstage and jump into the raging mosh pit. There was no controlling this crowd at all. During the third song, Cobain threw a temper tantrum--he took his guitar off and slammed it into the monitor console at stage right. Kurt had destroyed the console and left the band without a monitor mix onstage, so they couldn't hear a thing. Creighton Curlee, the monitor engineer and owner of the console, stood there with a look of shock. He had never really heard of Nirvana until that night. At this point, the security guys had become more sympathetic to Curlee than the band. One of those guys, a tattooed behemoth named Turner Scott Van Blarcum, turned around and looked at Kurt just as he waved his arms and implored the audience to jump onstage. He gave Kurt the finger and yelled, 'Fuck you, dude.' The band started playing the next song, and Kurt used Van Blarcum's back as a diving board to leap into the mosh pit. As the crowd pulled Kurt in every direction, he motioned to Van Blarcum to help pull him back onstage. Turner was having none of it and pushed Kurt back further into the crowd. Cobain swung his guitar around and slammed it into the side of Turner's head. Blood flew everywhere, and the audience finally pushed Kurt back onto the stage. He fell to his knees and struggled to get back up. As he rose, Van Blarcum slugged him in the side of his head, knocking Kurt about 10 feet across the stage. Grohl jumped straight over the front of his drum kit, and Novaselic [sic] tried to tackle the guard. | NFC News The Year in Nirvana: 2005 |
With 2006 approaching fast it is time to look back at 2005 in terms of what happened in Nirvana land. It's been a fairly quiet year when it comes to Nirvana-related news and releases. Two major highlights dominate the year when we look back: the "Classic Albums" DVD on the Nevermind album and of course the "Sliver" album.  To recap some of the main events of the year: "They were the most important group of the Nineties, but Boyz II Men are relegated here to appearing in a video watched by smacked-out rock star Blake (Kurt Cobain look-alike Michael Pitt). Hailed by some as a masterful meditation on a tormented soul, Last Days is an insufferably pretentious portrait of a mewling loser who's overly fond of Cocoa Krispies and shotguns. But there's a nice cameo by Ricky Jay as a private dick babbling about Chinese magicians." The album, Sliver: The Best of the Box was released on November 1 in the US and featured a song from the 1985 "Fecal Matter" demo as well as two other tracks that most Nirvana fans had never heard before. |

| NFC News Seattle legend TAD plans new releases |

| NFC News Courtney Love sells Nirvana | |
In today's gossip column (Page Six) of the New York Post they report the following disturbing story: "COURTNEY Love is broke and wants to raise cash by selling her rights to the song catalog of her late husband, Kurt Cobain, and Nirvana. Sources say Love, whose Crosby Street apartment was in foreclosure earlier this year, is looking for $100 million. This should come as salt in the wounds of Nirvana's Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Chad Channing, who fought with Love for years over control of the songs and over royalties. Love is now slimmed down and supposedly clean, but not earning much money. Reps didn't return calls." Courtesy of the New York Post. The story can't be verified and, indeed, it's only gossip at this point so one can only hope that it's not completely accurate. However, it's interesting to note that earlier this month, the Sunday Mirror (a British tabloid) reported that Courtney Love was selling a quarter of the Nirvana song catalogue to lifestyle icon Martha Stewart. Supposedly, the deal would land her some £70 million (approx. $121 million US dollars). No source was provided for the story and it was not repeated by any respectable mainstream publication. Thus, it is believed to be fiction at this point and it's possible that the NY Post story above is derived from this one. You may read it here. Martha Stewart was sentenced to prison in 2004 for conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements. She was released from prison in 2005. | NFC News Google optimized for music fans | |
Google has unveiled its latest no-brainer: a search function that allows surfers to easily find music and related information on artists and albums. A Web surfer who types a band name, album title, or song lyric into the Google search bar will now get a list of online stores where they can buy the tunes in question. Those sites include Apple's iTunes, as well as rivals like Microsoft's MSN Music, Amazon.com and RealNetworks' Rhapsody.From an article on the subject: "I decided to play around with the features myself. Typing Nirvana into the search bar gave me an album cover image at the top, with 'More music results for Nirvana' just below it. That link led me to a page divided into 'Artists', 'Albums', and 'Songs', including more images of album covers. Digging deeper, I was taken to a listing of albums, along with the online storefronts selling them -- including the big names above, plus retailers like Wal-Mart, CD Universe, and Buy.com. Other nice touches include track listings, links to artists' websites, related news, artist photos, and links to Google Groups for fans who want to discuss their favorite music online."
