NFC News Nirvana Reading 1992 show aired on radio
On BBC's Radio One in the UK, last Monday's Lamacq Live with Steve Lamacq featured a rare broadcast of Nirvana's performance at the 1992 Reading Festival.

They didn't air the complete performance but you do get a healthy selection from it. To listen online, click here and follow the link. The Nirvana set starts at around 1 hour and 17 minutes. I believe a new Lamacq Live airs on Radio One tonight so the live stream from last Monday will probably only be available on their website until tomorrow, Tuesday. Thanks to Adrian and Beth for the news.

NFC News Cobain mention in "Cold Case"
In the latest episode of the show Cold Case (3x12) which aired in the US and Canada on January 15, 2006 there are several mentions of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. The synopsis of the episode reads as follows:

"When a small piece of a note is found, Rush and the team reopen the 1994 death of a teenager, Trevor, that was previously classified as a suicide. After several interviews with local neighbours and childhood friends, it seems the teenager jumped off the roof of his school to his death. The depressed teen was obsessed with Kurt Cobain's suicide and had called into a crisis hotline for help numerous times, all pointing to a clear suicide. However, Rush pursues a new angle that she won't relinquish."

In this episode, there are numerous references to Kurt Cobain including mentions to his songs, a poster inside Trevor's locker, and the comparison of Raquel as Kurt Cobain's wife Courtney Love. Cobain's suicide in April 1994 also had a big impact on Trevor. During the episode, songs by Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains and Smashing Pumpkins are featured. Needless to say, no Nirvana songs appear. It's rumored that the producers wanted to use "Come As You Are" and "All Apologies". Thanks to Colin and Austin for info.

NFC News Unofficial DVD coming soon
An unofficial collection of three Nirvana DVDs is scheduled to be released (in the UK at least) on February 6, 2006. Here's the description of it: "Drawing on rare archive footage of Nirvana in performance, this is the powerful portrait of the music that changed the world.

The DVD features the views of the people who were closet to the band, including Kurt Cobain's grandfather Leland Cobain, housemate Dave Reed, photographer and friend Alice Wheeler, and even his guitar teacher Warren Mason.

Also featured are the opinions of leading rock critics, biographer Charles Cross, musicologists and a incisive psychoanalysis of the mind of Kurt Cobain by respected psychologist Stephen Smith. This is indispensable viewing for any Nirvana fan. The soundtrack features highlights from Rape Me, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Territorial Pissings, Heart Shaped Box, Negative Creep, Blew, Lithium, About A Girl, All Apologies, Pennyroyal Tea and more..."

It runs about two hours and 18 minutes. You can find more info here. Thanks to Grom.

NFC News Frances Bean interview
In the January 2006 issue of the magazine i-D there is an interview with Frances Bean Cobain (daughter of Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain). "As the daughter of two icons of rock, 13-year-old Frances Bean Cobain has a big old legacy to contend with. But this regular girl has better things to think about, like shopping, chemistry class, and American Idol."

In the interview, Frances talks about her mom among other things: " 'Sometimes I wish I wasn't so much at home alone and that it wasn't about nannies and chauffeurs and all that stuff,' Frances tells i-D magazine. 'I get to meet everyone I want and I get quite a lot of attention because of it, you know? But of course it hurts when you see a lot of lies about her in tabloids and then you think, 'Well, it's not that cool to have a cool mom.' I don't like seeing my mom upset. No one does, right?' " You can read the full interview here.
