NFC News Kurt Cobain's belongings to be auctioned away |
From AOL's spinner.com: "Thirteen years after Kurt Cobain's death, Courtney Love is making a commitment to move on, by selling her late husband's belongings. 'I'm going to have a Christie's auction,' she tells Spinner. '[My house] is like a mausoleum. My daughter [14-year-old Frances Bean] doesn't need to inherit a giant hefty bag full of flannel f***ing shirts ... A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to 'Teen Spirit' -- that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just f***ing sell.' Love says her friends are supportive of the idea. 'Everyone's been positive and behind me on it,' she says. 'We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity.' " Read the full story here, courtesy of spinner.com |

NFC News Iggy Pop comments on potential collaboration with Cobain |
"Kurt Cobain once left an early morning answer phone message for IGGY POP suggesting the pair hit the studio together - only to prove impossible for Pop to contact back. Iggy Pop - real name James Osterburg - did his best to return the Nirvana frontman's call, but never did manage to get in touch with him. The 60-year-old says, 'He called me up once at two in the morning. But this was when I was old enough to start going to bed at 9.30. When I'm not gigging I'm sensible so I didn't take his call. 'It was cool because it was a great musician at his peak and he's going, 'Iggy, this is Kurt Cobain, let's get in the studio man.' 'So he leaves me a number for the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills. And then every time I would call it was like, 'Mr. Cobain is under the bed,' or 'We haven't heard from Mr. Cobain in three days.' " Story courtesy of pr-inside.com |

NFC News Patti Smith covers Nirvana |
The new Patti Smith album Twelve was released in some countries today. The US/Canada release has been pushed to April 24, I believe. The album contains an unusual cover of the Nirvana classic Smells Like Teen Spirit. An acoustic cover with banjo and Smith's added poetry, this version is a bit of a departure from the original. Read more about the album here where she also talks about the Nirvana cover. You can find a clip of the cover here. |

NFC News Upcoming BBC show to feature unseen Nirvana footage |
On May 19, BBC2 in the UK will start airing a show called "Seven Ages Of Rock" - a seven part series that explores rock music from the 1960s to the present day. The 6th episode will feature Nirvana: "We'll take a fresh look at the explosion of the Seattle 'grunge' scene, culminating in the success of Nirvana's Nevermind and the short life and tragic death of Kurt Cobain – an artist whose triumph and tragedy continues to cast an inescapable shadow." Apparently the show will include previously unaired Nirvana footage from the April 17, 1991 Seattle concert of their first-ever live performance of Smells Like Teen Spirit. There will also be unseen rushes from BBCs "Rapido" interview with Nirvana in 1991. You can read the full press release here, courtesy of BBC2. |

NFC News NFC is 10 years old today! |
Today it has been exactly ten years since this website first started. Launched on April 8, 1997 this website took over from The Danish Nirvana Homepage, a small site that had originally been put online sometime in early 1996. In April of 1997 I registered the domain "nirvanaclub.com" and quickly opened this website based on material from the old site. The concept was to have a Nirvana fan club for members only, however this idea was quickly abandoned due to a number of factors. Since then it has been an unofficial fansite providing a wealth of material and interactive elements to Nirvana's fanbase. Today it remains one of the biggest and most-visited Nirvana fansites online, with thousands of loyal visitors every day including many who have stuck around for years. After 10 years online, it has grown to include a lot of content to help preserve the memory of a great band and bring you a little closer to Nirvana. There's still a large interest in the band and the Nirvana camp is still putting out new material regularly, with the highlight being 2004's box-set With The Lights Out. The NFC, as it has come to be known, will continue following the Nirvana legacy and bring you the latest news and information we can find. Thanks for sticking around and for supporting the site over these past 10 years. To read more about this website's history, check out the NFC museum.
