FOO FIGHTERS: LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM, an 18-song DVD documenting their two sold out Wembley Stadium shows was released earlier this week. NFC News Bands cover Nirvana at Reading and Leeds Festivals
According to NME, a handful of bands decided to pay tribute to the late Kurt Cobain at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK, last weekend.

Dirty Pretty Things covered Nirvana's In Bloom during their main stage performance on August 23. Midway through the gig, frontman Carl Barat announced that the band were "gonna do a song by an old band for you now," at which point they launched into In Bloom, from Nirvana's 1991 classic album Nevermind.

"Everyone said they liked it," a bemused Barat told Spinner after his band's Leeds festival slot. "This not the f---ing rush for land with everybody staking claims."

"The point is," American guitarist Anthony Rossomando said, "We don't give a f---. We thought it'd be f---ing cool and we love that band."

If the Dirty Pretty Things sound slightly defensive, it's because the festival's audience holds Nirvana on high after the Kurt Cobain fronted group made a significant impact on Britain after their 1992 Reading set, which NME readers voted the most significant moment in the Seattle band's history recently.

The Manic Street Preachers also did a cover of Nirvana's Pennyroyal Tea, Baltimore punks The Death Set closed with Territorial Pissings, while Feeder ended their set with Breed. Incidentally, Nirvana opened their legendary 1992 set at Reading Festival by playing Breed.

NFC News Melvins live DVD out now! Buzz Osborne tells Cobain anecdote
The Fantomas/Melvins Big Band: Live from London 2006 DVD, containing footage shot in May 2006 by director Douglas Pledger, has just been released!

According to this review, the release is the best live show ever captured featuring the likes of Mike Patton and The Melvins. The hour and twenty minute set piece has a cinematic composition that looks stunning when viewed on any HD monitor. Filmed at London's Kentish Town Forum, the concert captures two of today's most prolific metal bands playing in perfect synchronicity with each other.

Extras include a feature length audio commentary with Danny DeVito, The Melvins' Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover, booking agent Robby Fraser, and Ipecac co-owner Greg Werckman. Osbourne tells a funny story about having to fire Kurt Cobain as the producer of a Melvins' album.

You can order the DVD here.

NFC News Photographer Steve Double talks about Cobain
In a recent Times article, photographer Steve Double gives some background information about a Nirvana photo now featured in the Forever 27 exhibition currently on display at London's Proud Camden gallery.

"I took this in a park in Madrid. Kurt had no energy, no interest in anything. It was funny because Dave [Grohl] and Krist [Novoselic] were the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet, but Kurt just seemed frustrated.

It was a nightmare to take the picture. I had to wait around for hours, and the PR kept ringing up to say Kurt and Courtney were still holed up in their hotel room.

I'd spent days on the road with Nirvana in the US when the first album came out in 1989. Back then Kurt had been much more engaging. None of them was doing drugs as much, I guess. He became disenchanted with the music industry, the tours, all the promotional stuff. He just wanted to be in a little punk rock band."
