NFC News Excellent Lead Belly article
Crawdaddy! magazine has written a wonderful article in retrospect regarding the influence that Huddie Ledbetter (aka Lead Belly) has had on many contemporary musicians. It contains thoughts from Jimmy Page, George Harrison and Kurt Cobain, as well as a few others.

From the article itself: The Louisianan’s sound first came to impact the young lads who would go on to form the classic rock bands of the ’60s via the British Isle's mid-’50s skiffle craze. Rooted in the jug band style of the 1920s, skiffle’s homemade and improvised style relied on the wacky sounds of household items like washboard, comb, and homemade instruments—the stuff that makes for its irresistible, ecstatic sound.

You can read the article in it's original form right through here. Very special thanks to Michael for helping out on this one.

NFC News Cobain attorney responds to Guitar Hero 5
Courtney Love's attorney has now gotten into the thick of things regarding Guitar Hero 5, and it looks as though the game itself may be fixed in an upcoming patch after all the legal tussling over this past few days. Turns out that Kurt may stay in the game, but not allow you to play other artist's songs with him - so no possibility of watching him mime to Ring Of Fire. Unless you're into that sort of thing. ;) To find out what her lawyer is currently stating on the matter, click here.

NFC News Krist and Dave issue statement regarding Cobain avatar in Guitar Hero
This is a statement regarding Nirvana, Guitar Hero and the likeness of the late Kurt Cobain.

We want people to know that we are dismayed and very disappointed in the way a facsimile of Kurt is used in the Guitar Hero game. The name and likeness of Kurt Cobain are the sole property of his estate - we have no control whatsoever in that area.

While we were aware of Kurt's image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn't know players have the ability to unlock the character. This feature allows the character to be used with any kind of song the player wants. We urge Activision to do the right thing in "re-locking" Kurt's character so that this won't continue in the future.

It's hard to watch an image of Kurt pantomiming other artists' music alongside cartoon characters. Kurt Cobain wrote songs that hold a lot of meaning to people all over the world. We feel he deserves better.

NFC News Kurt Cobain appears as character in new Guitar Hero
From yahoo.com: "Gamers will be able to strum and sing as the iconic musician through two hits from Nirvana's magnum opus, Nevermind: the album version of legendary track Smells Like Teen Spirit and a never-before-released live version of the hit single Lithium.

While Nirvana's music has appeared in video games before -- including both Guitar Hero and competitor Rock Band -- neither franchise has managed to secure the license to 'Teen Spirit' until now."

The appearance of a Kurt Cobain avatar in the game has sparked a lot of controversy. According to several sources, Courtney Love plans to sue the maker of the game, Activision.

Further, Krist and Dave have released a statement concerning the use of Cobain's likeness in the game. Read it here.

Activision said in a statement Thursday that they secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a written agreement signed by Love to use the singer's likeness as a fully playable character in "Guitar Hero 5".

Chapter Six of Nathan Rabin's recently released memoir, The Big Rewind: A Memoir Brought to you by Pop Culture, is largely an account of Kurt's influence on Rabin and his friends as teenagers.
