NFC News Krist, Dave and Butch Vig to re-unite for Nevermind 20th anniversary; enter competition to be in the audience and ask Krist and Dave questions on the air
Some great news came out today: the popular anchor of The Daily Show on Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, will be hosting a Q&A session featuring Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Butch Vig to talk about the Nevermind album. The two-hour event will take place on September 24 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album. From AP:

Comedy Central's Jon Stewart will host a Q&A session with the surviving members of Nirvana to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its album Nevermind.

Stewart will host the event on SiriusXM for two hours on Sept. 24. It will feature fans, Nirvana band members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, and Butch Vig, the producer behind Nevermind.

SiriusXM will also launch the all-Nirvana channel, Nevermind Radio, on Sept. 23 until Sept. 28.

SiriusXM's "Town Hall with Nirvana" radio special is set to air Saturday, September 24, at 8 p.m. ET on SiriusXM Channel 34. Along with the "Town Hall," the channel will play music from the band's entire catalog and recordings of celebrities offering their thoughts about the band's influence.

The show will be recorded in New York in front of a studio audience. If you'd like a chance to be in the studio audience, check out the contest at the SiriusXM website:

SiriusXM wants to give YOU the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to speak live and in person with members of Nirvana - Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl - along with one of music's most respected producers, Butch Vig, who produced the 1991 release that went on to sell 30 million copies worldwide.

You'll have the chance to ask all three a question at this rare event for SiriusXM subscribers. A select group of Nirvana's biggest and most knowledgeable fans will have the opportunity to be part of the intimate studio audience at the event, which includes a meet-and-greet with Novoselic, Grohl, and Vig.

"SiriusXM's Town Hall with Nirvana" is part of Nevermind Radio, an all-Nirvana limited-run channel on SiriusXM. Nevermind Radio will launch on Friday, September 23 at 3:00 pm ET on channel 34 and will feature the music of Nirvana's entire career, including their three classic albums, B-sides, rarities and live performances. The channel will also feature celebrities in various fields sharing their thoughts on Nirvana and their influence. Nevermind Radio will air through Wednesday, September 28 at 12:00 am ET.

NFC News RS: Inside the 20th-Anniversary Reissue of 'Nevermind'
Great article from Rolling Stone with fresh comments from Vig, Novoselic about the recording of Nevermind and the 20th anniversary.

We had this motel room, and we would go to Smart Studios and work every day," says Novoselic. The sessions were fruitful but not without difficulties. "Kurt was charming and witty, but he would go through these mood swings," says Vig. "He would be totally engaged, then all of a sudden a light switch would go off and he'd go sit in the corner and completely disappear into himself. I didn't really know how to deal with that." Although Nirvana's studio money ran out after five days, the demos they had recorded in that span were strong enough to score them a major-label deal a few months later.

NFC News Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge - new book
Everybody Loves Our Town: An Oral History of Grunge is a critically acclaimed new book by Mark Yarm to be published on Crown (a division of Random House) on September 6 in the US. With exclusive photos and based on more than 250 interviews, the 600 page book is the definitive look at the Seattle music scene.

Everybody Loves Our Town captures the grunge era in the words of the musicians, producers, managers, record executives, video directors, photographers, journalists, publicists, club owners, roadies, scenesters and hangers-on who lived through it. The book tells the whole story: from the founding of the Deep Six bands to the worldwide success of grunge's big four (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains); from the rise of Seattle's cash-poor, hype-rich indie label Sub Pop to the major-label feeding frenzy that overtook the Pacific Northwest; from the simple joys of making noise at basement parties and tiny rock clubs to the tragic, lonely deaths of superstars Kurt Cobain & Layne Staley.

It includes interviews with Courtney Love, Chris Cornell and members of Nirvana.

The author Mark Yarm was a senior editor at Blender and the idea for the book came about when he wrote an oral history of Sub Pop for the magazine.
