Nirvana song in Californication

In last night's episode of the popular show Californication (2x10) the Nirvana song Heart-Shaped Box was used in a scene.

Early in the episode, there is a flashback to 1994 where the two main characters of the show (David Duchovny and Natascha McElhone) are in an apartment. McElhone's character, crying as she's watching the news of Cobain's suicide, uses the opportunity to announce that she's pregnant, with the Nirvana track playing in the background.

The episode, entitled In Utero, finishes with a scene showing the two characters visiting a vigil for Kurt Cobain in New York, to the soundtrack of the Pearl Jam song Nothingman.

In a previous episode, a guitar allegedly owned by Kurt Cobain was used as an important part of the plot.

Californication airs Sundays on Showtime in the US.
