An official release date for a book featuring Kurt Cobain's journals has now been made public, as well as other details; " 'Journals', a hardcover book replicating the diaries of late Nirvana leader Kurt Cobain is near completion and will go on sale Nov. 11, Riverhead Books co-editorial director Julie Grau tells Billboard.com. 'It's a replica of his notebook pages,' she says of the full-color volume. 'We have excised any thought of editorial intrusion. This is pure, unadulterated, Kurt Cobain.' The diaries consist of 23 notebooks and 800 pages of writings and drawings, dating from before Nirvana's 1987 formation to around the time of Cobain's April 1994 suicide. Excerpts appeared for the first time in Charles Cross' Cobain biography, 'Heavier Than Heaven,' published last summer by Hyperion. 'The important thing is that these journals represent Kurt Cobain's life and his thoughts,' Grau told Billboard.com in February. 'This is a book that is going to stand on its own. It's by Kurt Cobain. There's no point comparing it to anything anyone else has written, because these are his words.' Story courtesy of Jonathan Cohen and Billboard.com Also thanks to Jordana and Christopher. If you want to pre-order the book, click here.

Charles R. Cross is about to embark on another short tour to promote his book Heavier Than Heaven and do readings. Here is the current tour schedule:

Jennifer from HBO sent in this one; "HOB.com is celebrating the summer concert season with a tribute to the House of Blues voted Top 50 Live Albums of All Time. Fans can check out tracks from Nirvana's Unplugged in New York, voted in as the number nine album, along with entering a sweepstakes for a 10 CD pack!" Visit HBO here.

Ned Vizzini, former webmaster of the site UltimateNirvana.com, wrote his own book Teen Angst? Naaah... to be published on August 13 as a mass-market paperback. The book "is a collection of stories of funny crap that happened to me in high school and as you can imagine NIRVANA makes an appearance more than once since it was (and is) some of my favorite music." According to the back cover "Ned Vizzini writes about the weird, funny, and sometimes mortifying moments we all experience in junior high and high school. With wit, irony, and honesty, Teen Angst? invites you into his world of school, parents, the cool and almost cool, street people, rock bands, friends, fame, camp, sex (sort of), Cancun (almost), prom, beer, Nintendo, Magic, and more." On Page 141 there is one of the book's Nirvana mentions as Ned describes his friend; "Hector could have been the fourth member of Nirvana [uh oh, Pat Smear alert!]: shaggy black hair, flannel-shirt-over-T-shirt, faded jeans, sneakers." Ned also did an interview with Teen People recently which you can read here. If you'd like more info on the book, check out Ned's own website here. Thanks to Ned Vizzini for the info and links.

The first album by Krist Novoselic's new band Eyes Adrift is scheduled to be released on September 24 by spinART Records. spinART is also the home to artists such as Frank Black plus Echo and the Bunnymen. Also, don't forget to check out Chad Channing's excellent new band East of the Equator at their official website. Today, the section for guitar tablature ('tabs') was finally updated. Pretty much all the existing tablature files were scrapped because of consistent complaints over the years. They got replaced by a new and more accurate interpretation of the guitar aspect of Nirvana's classic songs. Special thanks to Andy for submitting the new tabs. If you are a guitar player, check them out here.

Also updated was the NFC Discussion Board archive. About 10.000 new threads were added, ranging over all five forums, bringing up the volume of the archive to about half a million messages. So if you need some interesting, funny and sometimes fascinating reading material, check out the archive here. There should be enough to keep you busy for a couple of years :)

Looks like Dave Grohl is - like the rest of us - getting fed up with fighting for Nirvana's legacy in the courts; "DAVE GROHL kicked life back into his feud with COURTNEY LOVE from the stage at T IN THE PARK on July 15 saying he was 'really pissed off' by the ongoing legal disputes over the NIRVANA legacy. Towards the end of the Foo Fighters Main Stage set, Grohl chose the Courtney-baiting Stacked Actors to launch into his diatribe. 'Now I've been pretty nice about this Courtney Love stuff for a while - but now that shit is REALLY PISSING ME OFF,' he said. 'I gotta do a fuc@ing deposition with my lawyer - FUC@ING SHIT.' Grohl and former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic are to go to court in September to fight Love for the rights to Nirvana's vast catalogue. The former Hole frontwoman claims that, as Kurt Cobain's widow, she should rightfully inherit the Nirvana legacy." Story courtesy of NME.

Apparently The Internet Nirvana Fan Club is mentioned in the latest issue of Rock magazine Hit Parader (with Ozzy Osbourne on the cover). It features an article that talks about the two bands that they think has had the biggest impact on the 90's (Korn and Nirvana). In the article they name which websites has the best Nirvana coverage, and this one comes up. Thanks to Justin. This website was also mentioned in the June 1999 and May 1997 issues of Hit Parader.

"U2's Bono and R.E.M's Michael Stipe are on a potential witness list for Courtney Love in her current legal battle with Dave Grohl and Krist Noveselic over the control of Nirvana music, merchandising, and marketing. According to a spokesperson for Love, Bono and Stipe are among the people that she's talked to about Nirvana-related issues. Bono reportedly once offered advice to the late Kurt Cobain on coping with rock stardom and celebrity fame, but was turned away at the time, which Love reportedly regrets. In addition, Stipe and Cobain were talking about collaborating just prior to Cobain's suicide. The spokesperson did add that Love and her representatives are working to avoid a trial situation where celebrities, friends, and associates would have to be called to testify. Love is also engaged in a lawsuit against Universal Music Group and has been working in the studio on material for a new album." Story courtesy of cfox.com. Also thanks to Daniela. As reported on July 1, the interesting list of potential witnesses can be viewed here.

Today in the Danish paper B.T. they state that a 'Best Of' Nirvana album is indeed on the way and that it will in fact include the song "You Know You're Right". I don't know how reliable this statement is, but it's certainly more than likely to happen eventually.

The Foo Fighters have set a October 22 release date for their forthcoming album, to follow 1999's "There Is Nothing Left To Lose". The album should include a song that features Krist Novoselic on background vocals.

"In the latest U.S. News with Elvis on the cover, there is a one sentence tidbit on Kurt Cobain. 'Or Kurt Cobain speaking in the idiom of a generation that thought it was too frustrated to care.'" Read more here. Thanks to Keo.

An interesting bit; In the Greek music magazine called 'Pop & Rock' there is usually various stuff related to Nirvana and Kurt. In the July issue there was a 'Face to Face' article; Yoko Ono vs. Courtney Love. Here's what Courtney says about Kurt (rough translation): 'People don't recognize the efforts Kurt made in order to live. They only talk about the drugs we used to take. Drugs were not the only thing in our lives. We used to have breakfast, lunch, dinner. We used to rent movies and eat ice-cream. We used to read to eachother and pray every night. We were decent people in some way.' " Thanks to 'HS'.

"The Brazilian Edition of 'Heavier than Heaven' (entitled 'Mais Pesado que o Céu' here) is currently in the 10th position of the most sold books, but it achieved 7th position last week. For Brazilians, the book is very good, but it has some mistakes. At the São Paulo concert at Morumbi, in 1993, nobody threw any fruit on Kurt. I was there and the only confusion ocurred in 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', when Kurt got the guitar playing wrong, in some parts." Thanks to Daniel.

Today it's been exactly 3 years since the NFC Board first opened. On July 3, 1999, a script called The Ultimate Bulletin Board was introduced to the site and offered a huge change over the existing forum in place; NFC's WWWBoard. The UBB script had a lot of features and attracted many new users over time, and the place became a meeting place for Nirvana fans from all corners of the globe. Prior to the UBB, a WWWBoard had been up for a couple of years, but it was only used by a relatively small group of people. Due to security reasons and various other factors, the UBB script was eventually replaced by a database driven forum that I had written myself. This was largely inspired by the UBB but was later expanded by a number of features and remains a comprehensive resource today. At the time of writing, the NFC Board holds more than 205.000 posts spread over almost 10.000 different topics in the seven forums. The place has gotten more than 6.000 registered users in the three years it has been up. Check out the board for yourself here.

Apart from being sued by Krist and Dave, Courtney Love has also been involved in some other lawsuits this year. One of them was filed by the owners of a mansion in Beverly Hills that Courtney rented; "Courtney claims she vacated the home in mid-December because her landlord 'continually snooped around,' entered the house without her consent, and failed to fix 'substantial leaks.' The owners, of course, see things a bit differently, as detailed in their cross-complaint. They charge that Love 'left behind a trail of damage and missing items,' including water damage caused when 'Love stuffed feminine hygiene or other products into a toilet, thereby creating a stoppage which created a flood.' She is also being sued by a Hawaiian spa for not paying a substantial bill. For more details on these lawsuits, check out The Smoking Gun. Thanks to Daniel for the link. Also check out this story concerning the battle of Nirvana's music.

Daniela sent in this one; "Here's something scary; 'Grunge wear' is being reinvented into fashion again, with flannel shirts and everything. Full story here.

"On Fri. June 28th, right before they went to commercial on Letterman (CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman), Paul Shaffer and the Late Show Band played the opening bars of 'Breed' -- you know, the drum part." Thanks to Dennis. The Late Show band jams on many popular songs before and after commercial breaks and "Everlong" by The Foo Fighters has long been a popular choice. Letterman himself once named it his favorite song by his favorite band.

"The Italian version of Charles Cross' book 'Heavier Than Heaven' is finally out. Entitled simply 'Cobain', the book was released recently by Arcana Press. The cover photo is the same as the American version. The price of the book is 18 Euro." Thanks to Rixx.
